The image for my site was taken from the Archimedes Palimpsest, a medieval Latin prayer book which, when examined closely, has so far revealed seven treatises by Archimedes (in addition to at least five other authors, including the Attic orator Hyperides).  This image is just one from their massive data set. The image shows how one text hides another, and implies that in order for us to discover new knowledge, we have to learn to look and to see, we have to read and to hear and to speak differently, which is to say: we must learn to see our texts not as single and unified, but as multiple and fractured–as palimpsests.
